PAS128 Utility Mapping and Verification Survey of Aldermanbury Square

26th January, 2022

LandScope completed a large-scale PAS128 utility mapping and verification survey of the roads and footways surrounding Aldermanbury Square in London over multiple visits between 2018-2021.

During the early phases of the project, each manhole / inspection chamber was lifted and a standard photographic record taken to provide details on condition. To further augment the condition assessment, our survey team captured 360-degree images for a detailed panoramic view. All data was acquired and input into our bespoke Electronic Underground Feature Records (EUFR) app which stores the images’ reference and locational data to allow viewing within GIS based software packages such as Esri or Orbit 3DM from Bentley Systems.

The goal of our most recent, and final phase of the project was to support the service verification report and allow the design contractor to utilise augmented reality technology. A number of slit trenches were excavated to expose and confirm the services present as part of the PAS128 Type A survey. LandScope collected a series of overlapping images of the excavated trenches so that a 3D mesh could be created; these 3D meshes were embedded into the client report and provided with true site coordinated to enable the application of augmented / virtual reality on site.
